I have had some questions lately about what exactly is Physical Therapy (PT) when done online? Is there paperwork? What does it look like? What does a session look like? Well, here are all your questions answered in a 4 part series!
All about Telehealth Physical Therapy

- The Screen
I am sure you may (or maybe not, haha, I forgive you) have noticed that I don’t have a direct scheduling link on my website! This is because I need to talk to my patients first. I need to #1 make sure you live in the states of which I am licensed. I can currently treat patients in the states of South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania, since I have a PT license for those states only. Second, I need to make sure you are appropriate for PT! I need a general idea of what you are experiencing.
And, most importantly, I need to decide if you need to see another specialist first. This is why I have a doctorate in PT and also why I have the ability to see patients direct access (which means without a PT order from a provider). Because I need to be able to weed out what is PT appropriate and what might need a quick visit to your primary care provider for some bloodwork or EKG. Or, an orthopedic doctor for an XRAY.

2. The (dreaded) Paperwork
Next, and I am so sorry to inform you, but there is paperwork. I know, I know. But, I need to know what your medical history is, exactly what I am seeing you for, and to obtain some consents for treatment and the like. From polling of my initial patients, it has taken as few as 5 minutes to fill out all the necessary paperwork, up to 20 minutes for some of my more diligent readers.
The paperwork can be filled out through the software I use, SimplePractice. You can either download the app on your phone or tablet, or fill out the paperwork in a web browser. For a step by step if you are interested in the SimplePractice Portal and how to fill out the paperwork, check out these videos I made:

I hope this is helpful! Stay tuned for Part 2: What a Telehealth session would look like.
