Welcome to the VERY FIRST Installment of the Dr. Barb Wally Newsletter!!
I’ll plan to send these out monthly. So, welcome to my Newsletter!
This month’s feature is: Shoe Inserts

Heal
Shoe inserts/orthotics are fantastic options for foot pain!
- Research has shown that over the counter shoe inserts are just as effective than custom orthoses.
- There are many brands, many types, and many ways to incorporate inserts into your shoes.
- They often can be essential for plantar fasciitis/heel pain (ie: bottom of the foot pain).
- You can often wear them not just in exercise shoes but also in dress shoes and work shoes – you just have to pick a brand of shoe that allows you to do so.

Tips regarding shoe inserts:
- Often times you can trim the end of the insert if you are between sizes. Pull the current insert out of your shoe and overlay it over the new insert for perfect fit.
- Shoe inserts will often survive beyond the life of the shoes – replace the inserts when you start to have pain or the integrity of the insert seems to be failing (ex: you are getting holes in the footbed).
- Be careful putting your inserts in the washing machine – the heat and detergent may ruin the glue and integrity of the insert.
- Give yourself time to adjust to the inserts when they are new – you may have to start with 1 hour and work up from there so you don’t cause a new problem.
Hope this helps everyone! Send me a message to request an appointment if you find yourself still struggling on your own!
