Is Squatting Past 90 Degrees Bad for You?

🏋️ Is squatting past 90 degrees bad for you?

This is a hugely controversial question in the exercise world. Some say yes, some say no.

My take as a physical therapist? If you’re young and healthy, and the demands of your sport require deep squats, it is probably fine.

But knee pain is common with age. And often those changes are related to breakdown in joint surfaces. And knowing joint forces are high around 90 degrees, it’s a no brainer yo avoid deep squats especially if they hurt. And especially as you get older.

If you want to stay active with less pain, it makes sense to be careful as you get older.
